First we took two 14x10x2 boards and nailed them to two 4x10x2, making a rectangular shape |
After the boxes were nailed together, we added biodegradable landscaping plastic. This keeps pesky weeds from coming up through the bottom, and allows for draining of water. |
Then comes the dirt! |
At the Horry County Waste Authority, they Sell compost for $20 per ton. And we got a ton! |
We Filled the boxes with 8 inches of dirt. |
After all the hard work, it was time to put in the plants! |
Indian Mustard |
Snow Cauliflower |
Boc Choi |
Rosemary |
Once the plants are in water thoroughly |
Deer are a problem in my area so we needed to figure out how to keep them from munching on the veggies. |
We took flexible 1/2 in PVC pipe and bracketed them to the side in an arch shape. |
Then we draped plastic netting over the arches and secured the bottom to a screw. |
The netting can be removed for weeding |
In the colder months, the arches allow for a sheet or burlap to be draped over the bed to shield from frost. |
